Conditions were extremely harsh at Gusen. Of 67,677 prisoners, 31,535 died. Besides being executed, beaten, or worked to death, some desperate prisoners took their own lives. next >>

Below: On November 15, 1941, Spanish inmate Francisco Escriba Moran flung himself across the electrified barbed wire at the camp perimeter to die by electrocution. A drawing attached to a typewritten report recorded his suicide, discovered in camp files after liberation.
