Whether as a result of a
search for the manifest of a ship that a relative
traveled on to come to the United States, or from a
“Petition for Naturalization” or Federal Census report,
It always delights me when I find an answer to a
question that has been perplexing me, thus shedding a
bit more light on the mystery we commonly call our
“family tree.” Whether combing through birth and
marriage records at a City Archives, or looking at tax
assessment photos that were taken in 1939 of old family
residences and businesses, spending hours upon hours,
day after day, looking through bleary eyes at records on
microfilm, this diligence has provided me with ample
rewards. The microfilm machine has become my friend and
ally.
Within the Museum's Education and Research Center,
the results of my own research will be discussed and the course of action
that I followed in search of answers will be discussed. Various "case studies"
will be presented that will show my thought processes and methods employed by me
in hopes of finding genealogically-related answers to questions I had about my
family tree. Hopefully, this will be useful to you and will make it easier for
you to find information about your own family. Good luck!
