WORLD WAR I (1914-1919) HONOR ROLL*
Lists of Some of the Jewish Military Personnel who Perished in the trenches during WWI.

The plaque below reads:

"THESE ROLL OF HONOUR BOARDS WERE ORIGINALLY MOUNTED IN THE FOYER OF
THE EAST LONDON SYNAGOGUE. THEIR DEDICATION TOOK PLACE ON SUNDAY 24 JUNE 1990
CORRESPONDING TO ROSH CHODESH TAMMUZ 5750..."

AT THE TOP OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT PLAQUES IS INSCRIBED:

"Dedicated to the honoured memory of the Jews of East London, who were numbered among those who,
at the call of King and Country, felt all that was dear to them, enduring hardness, faced danger,
and finally passed out of the sight of men by the path of duty and self-sacrifice, giving up their own lives
that others might live in Freedom. Let those who come after see to it that their names are not forgotten."
