L. was born on 26 May 1885 in Berdichev, Ukraine.

His father was a well-to-do businessman.

He received an mashkhil education, later studying in Warsaw and Lodz.

In 1904 he immigrated to America and in 1906 he debuted with a story in "Fa'Sh", then in "Di varheyt" and later became a co-editor of "Di gleykhheyt".

In America L. studied for two years [yos.] In 1921 he became the editor of the worker department  in "Di tseyt", then a permanent collaborator in "Der tog", for whom he wrote very often about Yiddish theatre (reviews, articles, interviews, overviews and news).
