1931-1969
 

Yakov Shekhtman

 

S. was born in 1912 in the village Lipnike, Zhitomir region, Ukraine.

He was educated in Kiev in a boarding school. He developed as a talented painter.

He produced for the Kiev Yiddish Worker's Theatre and Cinema. He co-worked in Moscow in the agricultural exhibition as a folk artist.

In 1940 he came to the Kiev Artists Institute.

In 1941 he went away voluntarily with the Soviet Army, and in 1942 fell to the "wings of death" in the struggle against the Nazi invaders.

Sh.'s brother, Manuel, was a painter, and his sister a Yiddish actress.
