Aba [Albert] Shoengold
(incomplete translation, w/out most quotations translated)
Born in 1856 in Bucharest,
Romania. Sang together with Mogulesko for Cantor Kuper.
The historian of the Yiddish
theatre, B. Gorin, mentioned him soon as "Professor"
Horowitz began to act after Passover 1878 in Bucharest,
Romania: "His troupe was headed by Aba Shoengold, who
then appeared for the first time, with Moshe Teich,
Hershel Goldenberg and a certain Goldstein [the late
Sophie Karp].
Horowitz then staged "Dos
poylishe yingel (The Polish Youth)", a dramatization of
Y. Y. Linetsky's novel that had nothing to do with his
latter play with the same name, then the play "Bankir
tiran", and the translated "Di viste inzl". In the
entire play S., evidently, acted in the main roles.
