Letters from Szczuczyn
Letter 12:

January 1940 [date deduced from the Parsha of the week listed at the top of the letter]
Postcard with Russian stamp and postmark
Stamped "Passed by Censor V68"

Written by Wolf Kayman, Szczuczyn [name and return address is written in Russian], sent to Mr. L. Kayman, 80 Glenferrie Rd, Malvern, Melbourne

Dear Children,

We are alive and well. We are now classified as White Russians. It is reasonably quiet here.

Nison [Eliezer's younger brother] was a prisoner of war in Germany for fourteen weeks. He returned last month. His luck was that he got ill. His legs were swollen as a result of hunger and that caused the Germans to let him go. About three hundred and seventy young people are still being held by the Germans among them [Rabbi] Lipe Chaim.

How are you all? I received your cable. Be well and write often. Don't send any money. A parcel would be appreciated.

Your father,

Zev Kayman
