Letters from Szczuczyn
Letter 16:

7 July 1940

Letter with no envelope

Written by Wolf Kayman, Szczuczyn

To my dear children whom I miss,

Eliezer, dear, you are worrying about us too much. Stop obsessing about us. Imagine how bad it would be if you were called up to serve in the Russian army, given a rifle and had to learn how to use it. Please remember that this is your father and mother talking to you. Stop obsessing about your home and your parents, and stop worrying so much. Make peace with the idea that you will eventually succeed in Australia. Get on with your own life, and don't even think about coming back here.

My dear, devoted son, I received your consoling letter asking us to calm down. Of course we must calm down. At times it is very difficult to endure it all.  But what can we do?

Dear Zelda and grandchildren,

Don't let him carry on in such a mood. Everybody in town is envious of you. God will help you, as  it is said in our scriptures "where from will come my help..." We must hope that you will be able to send us a cheerful letter and we'll share in your joy from afar.

Best wishes to our brother-in-law Nechemia [Nochem Rosenbaum] and my dear sister Feiga and nephew Benjamin and his wife, whom we don't  know. I wish you all a Happy New Year.

Your Zev Kayman
