M. Gertz
(Moshkovitsh)
 

M. Gertz was born on August 20, 1896 in Lublin, Poland.

He studied with teachers, and when his parents were transferred to Riga, G., until he was twelve years of age, attended cheder and night school, and afterwards in yeshivas in both Dinaburg at the Slobodka Morality Yeshiva “Kinneset Yisroel” and at the Mir Yeshiva.

At age nineteen he came to Vilna, where he occupied himself with teaching and made his debut there with the supplemental newspaper “Vilnius Weekly”.

In 1914 he returned to Riga and became a professional journalist.

Gertz wrote the one-act "caricature"-comedy, “Behind the Scenes of Editors” which was staged by the Riga Jewish Theatre. In addition, Gertz often wrote articles about Yiddish theatre.
