Photo title:
Zelman Burak
Family surnames:
BURAK (BURACK); DREJARSKA; DREJARSKI
Place of residence: JEDWABNE
Date of photograph: cir early 1920s
Holocaust: Zelman never emigrated from Poland and presumably
perished in the Jedwabne pogrom in 1941.
Zelman was the only child of Aron and Sheina Gittel Burak not to
emigrate from Poland. One of his brothers, Aaron, the youngest
of the five children, returned to Jedwabne in the 1930s to try
to convince Zelman and his mother (his father had passed away
before son Aaron was born) to come back with him to the United
States, but they wouldn't do it. The good son and brother that
he was, Aaron sent back five-hundred dollars to his mother so
that she might buy a small home, a better one than the one room
shack they lived in. Unfortunately, like so many others, Zelman,
his mother, and presumably whatever family he might have had,
perished in the Jedwabne massacre in 1941.
