PHIL AND BERTHA'S ANNIVERSARY

Phil Sheff, nee Shefkowitz, and Bertha Burack

Bertha, Chatzkel and Lena's old girl, and her husband Phil lived in the same house at 36 Ward Street in New Haven as her brother Sam and his family and Chatzkel and Lena. She treated Sam and Edith's sons Sherman and Kenneth as her own.

"When I came home from school, Bertha used to slip me a couple of dollars. She said, 'Don't tell my husband.' " --nephew Kenneth Burack
