On Thanksgiving Day,
November 29, 1934, the management of the Yiddish
Public Theatre in New York City tendered to its cast
a Thanksgiving dinner.
Here is a photograph of
the occasion, taken from the collection of the
Museum of the City of New York. It is not easy to
identify those seated at the tables, but one can at
least recognize the great Aaron Lebedeff, who is
seated in the front, on the left side of the
photograph. The cast of the production given at the
time should be seated at these tables, so perhaps if
you know what one or more of them look like, you can
identify them. During this time the Public Theatre
presented the William Siegel play, "A Happy Family,"
which opened the 1934-1935 season on September 19th.
The cast included Lebedeff, Itzik Feld (perhaps
seated behind Lebedeff), Menachem Rubin (perhaps
seated on the right side of the middle table, second
from the front), Lucy Levin, Max Wilner, Max Badin,
Pauline Hoffman, Anna Teitelbaum, Yetta Zwerling,
Vera Lubov (Lebedeff's wife) et al. The lyrics were
written by Irving Honigman, and the score was by
