A TURTEL FAMILY GATHERING
Czernowitz, Ukraine
1932

From Asher Turtel:
"This is a photo of our family taken in Czernowitz in 1932 at my grandfather's house at Gerbergasse 4. Sitting in the middle are Grandfather Marcus Turtel and his wife Clara Turtel nee Buller. Next to Clara sits Joseph Turtel (Marcus's brother), and next to Marcus sits Berta Fisher nee Turtel, who was Marcus's sister. Another sister of Marcus, Ethel Gottesman, (Mendel's wife) was not alive at this time. The boy between my grandparents is Freddy Turtel, my cousin who lives today in Israel.

Standing from left to right: Zigi Fishler (my cousin who was killed at the battle of Stalingrad); Josephine Turtel nee Sekler, Freddy's mother; Jehuda Turtel, Freddy's father, my father's brother; Berta Fishler nee Turtel, Zigi's mother, my father's sister; Norbert Fishler, Berta's husband; Gusta Turtel nee Krattenstein, my mother; Lazar Turtel, my father; Mitzi Fishler, Zigi's sister. I was born nine years afterwards."
