Jedwabne
POLAND

Photo title:
Charles Burak in a Polish army uniform.

Family surnames:
BURAK (BURACK); DREJARSKA; DREJARSKI
Place of residence: JEDWABNE
Date of photograph: cir early 1920s
Holocaust: Charlie was already in the United States before World War II began.

It seems that Charlie (Yechiel) was in the Polish army for a certain period of time. Eventually he emigrated with his brother Sam (Chone), most likely traveling to Cuba, where he and Sam bided their time until they were able to immigrate into the United States. Neither Charlie or Sam talked much about their lives in Poland, so the story is a bit sketchy.

We know that Sam entered the United States in 15 Apr 1926, and since the family feels that they were inseparable, they probably both came into the United States together.

There are no known records of Charlie's immigration, so nothing specifically is known to this point about the exact nature of how or when Charlie entered the United States. He did however live in Brooklyn, Kings, New York until his passing in 1954, at the age of fifty.
