THE GABAI FAMILY
Munchen (Munich), Germany
1906

The occasion was the bar mitzvah of Leon Gabai who you can see on the left of the photo in his bar mitzvah outfit! The others in the photo (from left to right) are Leon's grandmother, Maria Cohen Gabai, his sister Maria Nouri Gabai, and his mother Rachel Arditti Gabai.

Leon survived the Holocaust together with his wife and daughter by getting the last boat to Chile (as they were Sephardim and spoke Ladino they had no trouble with Spanish). Maria Cohen Gabai and Rachel died circa 1925. Maria Nouri became Maria Nouri Honig (later Holton) and escaped with her husband and son to England.
