Tsile Ashkenazy

A. was born in Lemberg, Eastern Galicia.

Her father was a baker.

She finished a kreyz-school.

She sang in the local temple together with Regina Zuckerberg, and afterwards she performed in the chorus of Gimpel's Yiddish theatre, where she was for three years and also acted in small roles. From there she went over for a year to the chorus of the Polish theatre, and at the same time danced in ballet.

Due to an illness she withdrew from stage activity for half a year, and afterwards together with a sister, the wife of actor Ebell, went to Romania, where her brother-in-law was a partner in a troupe with Isidore Ashkenazy. There she began acting in larger roles, especially mother roles.

After her marriage to Ashkenazy she continued to act (a foreigner in Lemberg) with him.

In 1926 she retired from the stage.
