Henry Berman
(Henekh Beyli)

 

B. was born on 6 March 1885 in Poddebice, Kalisz Gubernia, Poland.

He finished a folkshul and learned in a yeshiva.

He sang with a cantor, and afterwards, in 1905, was taken in by M. D. Vaksman as a chorus singer in the Yiddish theatre.

After acting in Yiddish theatre in various countries, he traveled out to South Africa, where he acted in Johannesburg in English with the "American English Company", and since 1928 is the director of the Yiddish troupe in South Africa.
