Dolitzky was born on March 13, 1858 (according to a notation in Reyzen’s Lexicon [1856]), in Bialystok, PolanDolitzky 

His father was a ritual slaughterer. 

Dolitzky graduated from Zamenhoff’s State School. Until he was seventeen years old he studied sacred texts and after his marriage he continued his studies living with and dependent upon his father-in-law. He went on with his studies and devoted much of his energies to the literature of the Jewish Enlightenment (Haskalah). 

At nineteen years of age he began to write in Hebrew. He traveled abroad for a short while and after that he traveled all over Russia where he had become popular because of his Hebrew poetry and stories. In 1892 he traveled abroad to the United States where he became active in the Yiddish and Hebrew press.  His play “The Regret” (Di harute) was performed in the U.S. in 1907.
