Nadya Dranova
(Gnesya Meytus)
 

 

D. was born on 27 September 1889 in Odessa, Ukraine.

Her father was employed by the theatre and due to this, D. had the opportunity to act as a child. In 1904 she became a chorus singer in the Kaminska-Sabsey troupe in Odessa, and in 1905 she began to act in roles in the troupe of Spivakovsky-Sam Adler while known as "Nadina".

In 1906-7 she was with Fishzon. After her marriage to him she was in the troupes of Kaminska, Rappel, Zandberg, Julius Adler and H. Sierotsky. During the war she traveled around with her husband across Russia.

From 1917-22 she acted in the cooperative troupe in Harbin, and from there she went away to America, where in 1923 she entered  into the union and acted until 1927 in Philadelphia's Arch Street Theatre. From 1927-9 she was in New York's Public Theatre, and in1929-30 she was in Chicago's Lawndale Theatre.

Specialty: Character actress.
