Betty Gertner

 

G. was born on 26 June 1904 in Yablonitsa, Karpathian Galicia. Her father was a footwear merchant. She completed a birger (citizen)- and a trade school in Vienna, wherein the family moved to. Performing in the "Arbeter fareyn" with declamations, G. became acquainted with actor Preys, who led her into the "Freyer yidisher folks-bine", where she performed as "Rivkele" in Asch's "Gott fun nekome (God of Vengeance)", and she acted in that troupe for three years in Austria and Rumania.

After becoming acquainted with Sidney Goldin, with whom she married, G. participated in Vienna in the film "Yizkor" by Sackler, came with her husband to America, was filmed in the title role in "East Side Sadie", and traveled back to Vienna, where she acts in Yiddish theatre.
