Jacob Gertner
 

 

G. was born on 20 November 1900 in Warsaw, Poland.

His father was a small businessman.

G. learned in a cheder, Talmud Torah, and took secular topics privately.

From his early youth he was interested in the theatre, and in 1917 he participated in the dramatic circle with the "Groser klub", later in the dramatic section of "Hazamir" (Director David Herman), until in 1920 when he entered into the Vilna Troupe.

A short time afterwards he went off to Moscow where he entered into the Granovsky studio and later the Moscow Yiddish State Theatre with whom he went on a European tour.
