Clara Gottlieb
(Gershanovitsh)

 

G. was born in 1882 in Demeyevka, Kiev, Ukraine, to pious parents.

As a child of ten, through her sister, the actress Leah Kompaneyets, she was taken in to the Yiddish theatre to act in children's roles.

With time she developed into a prima donna, and in the time of the Gordin epoch she went over to drama.

G. participated in many troupes throughout Russia, Poland and Lithuania, and in 1924 she traveled across Belgium and France to Cuba, from where in 1926 she came to Canada, where she acted from time to time with her family.
