M. was born on 3 May 1905 in Suwalki, Poland. Her father was a hairdresser and also a makeup artist in the theatre. She learned in a folkshul. As a child she went with her father to the theatre and was looked after when he worked, and as such at an early age she became enamored with the stage. Early -- in the amateur circles of Suwalki, and in 1922 she entered the professional Yiddish theatre, beginning in the troupes of "Dranov", Sandler, Lipman, Hart (Galicia), Kadish-Khash (Lithuania) and with the actors Streitman, Kamoy, Shapiro, Yablokoff, and Weinberg.

During the Second World War she acted in 1940 in Brisk, in a Russian dramatic theatre, and when the war against the Soviet Union came, she worked in the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic. After the war she returned to Poland, and in 1945 entered into the Yiddish theatre in Lodz, and in 1949 went over to the Yiddish State Theatre of Poland, going on tour with them throughout the world.

K. at first acted in soubrette roles such as "Devorah" in "Di rumenishe khatuna (The Rumanian Wedding)", later serious roles such as "Mirele" in "Di baba yakhna", "Leah" in "Dybuk", "Madam Feyn" in "Dos groyse gevins (The Big Winner)", the title role from "Di mame fun der velt (The Mother of the World)", "Di dinst" in "Kleynbirger" by Gorky, "Freyde" in "Amol iz geven" by Peretz.
