Zisha Landau


L. was born in 1889 in Plotsk, Poland into a Chasidic family, receiving a traditional Jewish education in a cheder and with tutors. Later he learned Polish and secular studies with a Christian teacher.

In 1906 Z. immigrated to New York and here debuted under the name of Yehuda in the "Forward", and later became a frequent collaborator in various Yiddish journals. L. is one of the pre-eminent poets in the "Di yunge" group.

Among other books L. also published "Der bloyer nakhtigal, a shpiel in 3 scenes, published in America, N. Y., 1923".
