Zila Landsman


L. was born on 18 November 1886 in Bendin, Poland.

His father was a tailor.

Until the age of thirteen he learned in a cheder and thereafter learned with a house painter.

In 1905 he became active in the Jewish Workers Movement and at the same time staged, directed and acted with the various dramatic circles in Sosnowiec and in the local "Hazamir".

In 1919 he migrated to Metz, Alsace-Lorraine, and here founded the "Yidishe kultur-fareyn (Yiddish Culture Union)" and also a dramatic circle [by.m] union, performing with as well as acting as stage manager for the various guest-starring troupes and founded, together with Krause and Kessler, the theatre society "Habima", in which he afterwards was president.
