David Leibovitsh

L. was born on 7 December 1892 in Iasi, Rumania. His parents were in business.

He learned in a Yiddish-Romanian school with the teacher Z. Helman (Hzmn), who as a former actor helped him develop a love of the Yiddish word and also directed him to the Yiddish theatre.

He tried to be a businessman but in the end, after entering in on [vaviltetike ovntn] with Yiddish concerts, he became in 1912 a professional actor in the troupe of Pinku Fridman and Adolf Segal.

In 1917 he went to Russia and acted there for several years.

In 1920 he returned to Romania and became a folksinger in bars and coffee houses.
