Hersh Lukovski
 

 

L. was born on 25 December 1896 in Starodub, Homel Gubernia, White Russia. His father was a shadkhan who often used to participate in Purimshpieles (Purim plays). In the family there were Yiddish actors. He learned in a cheder, Russian privately, and he completed three classes of a Yiddish school.

From childhood he manifested a desire for the stage, and since 1919 he began to perform in a drama circle which he had founded.

In 1921 he entered into the school of the Moscow Yiddish State Theatre, and then went over to the troupe of "Mim't".

L. also had participated in the films "Luft-mentsh" and "Yidishe glikn" according to Sholem Aleichem, director -- A. Granovsky.
