1931-1969
 

Meir Melman
 

 

Born in 1900 in Zolkiew, Galicia. He completed a folkshul and a gymnasium. After the gymnasium he participated in Polish in a school production. In 1922 he entered into a university, where he studied [polonistik] and philosophy and graduated in 1926 in Krakow, while at the same time completing in Krakow the Polish dramatic school, being taken into the Polish Worker's Union under the direction of Marian Stemala.

In 1923 he was taken into the Vilna Troupe during their guest-starring appearance in Lemberg. In 1926 he was in "Vik't" (under the leadership of Zigmunt Turkow and Ida Kaminska) and became afterwards taken in as a member of the Yiddish Artists Union in Poland.

In 1930 he acted with Lidia Potocka and Dr. Paul Baratov and then entered into the Jewish facultat of Lemberg's university, due to the temporary stoppage of his stage activity.
