Born on 14 July 1904 in Bendin, Poland. His father was a businessman and at the same time a Hebrew teacher. Until age fourteen he learned in the Bendin yeshiva and secular studies privately. Later he went into commerce and [farfulkumt] in Yiddish, Polish, German and Hebrew.

On 14 October 1923 he entered into the Warsaw Yiddish dramatic school (Director -- Dr. M. Weichert) and on the tenth yahrzeit of Y. L. Peretz (1925) he debuted with the school in Peretz's "Beynakht oyfn altn mark (A night in the Old Marketplace)" (Director -- David Herman). In the summer of 1925 he went on tour with the studio across Poland with the repertoire: "Beynakht oyfn altn mark", "Dybuk", "Di veyberishe kniplekh", :Puste kretshme", "Grine felder", et al.

In December 1925 he went into "Azazel", where he performed until the end of 1927. In 1928 he acted in Krakow's Yiddish theatre for A. Morevsky, then with Ida Kaminska and Zigmunt Turkow in Warsaw and across Poland. Later he went into the Vilna Troupe (Leader -- M Mazo).
