Yosef Shlomo Prenovits
 

 

P. was born on 6 March 1871 in Alkesot, near Kovno, Lirthuania.

He received his education in a cheder; he had, at the age of seventeen, immigrated to America where he passed the various trades.

Already as a young man he wrote songs. In 1891 he debuted in the "Folks advokat", and later he often published in periodicals. title pages, and issues of several books of songs and stories.

Since 1905 a substitute co-worker in the "Forverts (Forward)", where he since 1935 was the redactor for the theatre times and also had published many articles, gave speeches, and wrote reviews about the Yiddish theatre.

P. is a member of the committee for the "Lexicon of the Yiddish Theatre".

On 16 December 1938 P. passed away in New York and was brought to his eternal rest at the cemetery of the "Arbeter Ring "Workmen's Circle".
