Rosa Rabinowitz
(Tarnarutskaya)

R. was born in 1873 in Simferopol, Crimea. As a child of three she went away with a gypsy with whom she used to travel around and given "concerts". They used to sing and dance and she, as a small child, used to perform on the barrel organ. Her brothers recognized her at times on a [ban], [getting it back?] from the gypsy, but her mother died of heartache and her father became very sick.

Very young she had to in the beginning care for herself, so she traveled to Odessa, where she met with actor Avraham Rabinowitz. She married him and through him took up the stage and followed the same path to the stage as her husband.

R. passed away in 1937 in New York.

Her daughter, Tillie, acts on the Yiddish stage.
