R. was born in Nikolayev,
Kherson Gubernia, Ukraine. She learned Yiddish with a
private teacher and Russian in a folkshul. From
childhood she manifested a request to sing and declaim,
and a desire to act in theatre, and she acted in
children's roles in Goldfaden's "The Sacrifice of Isaac"
and Lateiner's "Joseph and his Brothers."
R. became a member in the "Folksbiene"
and acted in Hirshbein's "Frost-blumen," and under the
direction of Jacob Rotbaum and David Licht in Sholem
Asch's "Uncle Moses" (as "The Mother"), Sholem
Aleichem's "Dos groyse gevins (The Big Winner)" (as "Di
mel-yidene"), in Leon Kobrin's "Riverside Drive" et al.
R. also had acted in English
in "Family Upstairs," "Meydkhen in Uniform," "Angel
Street" et al.
R. is a member of the
Yiddish Actors' Union and had acted in the Second
Avenue Theatre (Director Irving Jacobson and Irving
Grossman) in Siegel's "The Wedding March"; later, under
the management of the Actor's Union, in "Unzer teater"
in the Labor Temple under the direction of Nathan Goldberg
in Kalmanowitz's "Gelt iz nit alts", and later
under the direction of Ben-Tsion Witler in Libin's
"Children Don't Forget", later in the "Educational
Alliance" in Freiman's "Di fraylekhe mame," and "Dos fraylekhe shnayderl," and in the 1958-59 season, in the
same theatre, under Max Bozyk and Sheftel Zak in "Di
ershte shvalb" by I. Lash and "Parnusah" by Chone
Gotesfeld. R. also performed as a singer in various
events for Yiddish organizations.
