Mollie Sauer

A Christian, who came from Berlin, Germany.

In 1896, when Cesar Greenberg arranged Yiddish productions in Johannesburg (South Africa) and they were lacking singing powers, Sauer, who there had acted in a German operetta troupe, entered into the chorus of his Yiddish theatre. Soon thereafter he wrote special scenes for her in the operetta "Miriam hkhshmunit (Miriam of the Maccabees)," in which she had great success, and she remained as a prima donna in the troupe, in which she acted for one-and-a-half years.

With time Sauer had learned Yiddish and a little Hebrew.

M. E. from Cesar Greenberg.
