V. was born on 20 July 1889 in Lemberg, Galicia.

His father was a clothing merchant and the head of a tailor work stand.

He learned in cheder and in a school. He sang in temple and in the children's chorus of the Yiddish theatre.

Undergrown, he began to act in comedy roles with "amateurs," however his parents were not satisfied thereof and put him into a hat business, but V. acted again with the "amateurs," and in 1911 he fled to Kolomea and into Norbert Glimer's troupe, where he debuted as "Motele" in "God, Man and Devil."

After acting a year in the troupe, V. crossed over to a member's troupe, afterwards into a chorus of Hart in Stanislawow, while acting in roles at the same time. In 1913 V. with the member's troupe run by Palepade. In wartime he, together with "amateurs," created a troupe in Krakow, and afterwards as a prisoner-of-war he acted in Yiddish theatre in the prison camps.

From 1915-20 he acted with Podzamce in Vienna, later for a short time in Romania.

From 1922-23, he worked in cafe houses, until he went back in 1924 into the Vienna Yiddish theatre.
