Leopold (Peretz) Yungvirt

 

Y. was born on 15 April 1891 in Krakow, Western Galicia. His father was a businessman.

He began in 1908 in the chorus and at the same time in small character roles with the Yiddish theatre in Krakow, and since 1911 he acted in larger roles. Later for three years he was director in Krakow, then actor and regisseur in Czernowitz, several years acting with Podzamtshe in Vienna, then in London, Paris, Czechoslovakia, and in 1928 there was the premiere of Emil Fridese's Yiddish troupe in Vienna.

Y. wrote the play "Di falshe shbueh" and "Der renegat" and translated "Veybsteyvl", "Morfyum" and "Shalom vetershteyn".
