Fannie and Goldie was part of an acting family, as their father was a prompter for a Yiddish theatre, and their brother Dave had performed on the Yiddish stage for many years.

As a five-year-old child, Fannie played the role of "Khanala the seamstress" with Rachel Alexander. After that she was placed in different children's roles.

In 1908 she came to America with her family. Her first important role came in 1912, and from that point she began a long and industrious career on the Yiddish stage.
