Eliasz Chmielewski was born in Stawiski, Poland but moved to Lomza, the hometown of his first wife Frejda, where their first child Julius was born. Sometime after 1897 they moved to the United States where Jennie was born in 1905. When Jenny was two years old Frejda died, and Eliasz decided to return  to Stawiski with his two children. In 1911 Eliasz brought Julius back to the United States to live with his wife's family, the Flatows. After returning to Stawiski, he remarried, had his third child Avrum, and opened a bakery. Avrum survived or escaped during World War II and ended up in Israel. Jennie once said that Eliasz died in New York, but that fact has never been verified.
