He was born in 1885 in a small shtetl in Kielce Gubernia, Poland, into a well-to-do family.

He was educated in Lodz, where he completed two classes in a primary school, sung in the choir of the synagogue, and in the children's chorus of various Yiddish troupes.

He came into contact with the theatre, and H. considered a life on the stage. Together with school youths, he also put on in the Berlin Hall , then the operetta "Shulamis," in which he played the title role.

In 1905 he participated in the amateur production of Pinski's "Family Zvi" at Lodz's Grand Theatre. There he observed the conductor and the actor Mitelman, who took him into his itinerant troupe, which traveled across Russia, where H. debuted as "Shlomo Zeygermakher" in Chirikov's "Yidn."

After acting for a year-and-a-half with the same troupe, H. returned to Lodz and acted for several years as a comedian in the Grand Theatre (Director Yitskhok Zandberg).

Afterwards H. made a tour across Europe, and since the war he has taken his own troupes across the Polish provinces.
