H. was born on 17 July 1895 in Vald-Dorf Meydan, Poviat Kalush, eastern Galicia.

His family were country folk.

In 1914 he completed the public gymnasium in Stanislawow and began to study medicine, but he had to leave because of the outbreak of the war, in which he had to participate as one of the voluntary physicians.

For twelve years he wrote songs in Polish, and for fifteen years in Yiddish. In the time of war, He began to publish songs in Lemberg's "Tagblat," and later in other journals and newspapers and had published some [bender] songs, [farmendik on ongezen art] in the Yiddish press.

In February 1927 Jonas Turkow staged in Krakow H.'s translation of St. Zweig's dramatization of Johnson's "Volfane" (Der tants arum gelt)."
