Nyunye (Chana) Edelman-Klebanova

 

E. was born in 1892 in Yekaterinoslav, Ukraine.

Her father was a rabbi and ritual slaughterer.

In 1906 she debuted as "Kvashnya" in Gordin's "Na dnye" in a Russian amateur circle, and acted there for a year.

In 1907 she already performed as a professional actress, guest-starring with Russian actor Kozhevinkov, with whom she acted in responsible roles.

In 1910 she went over to the Yiddish stage, debuting as "the mother" in Libin's "Yulke ekspresman" [Di vilde"] with Lieberman and since then has remained acting in the Yiddish theatre.

In 1919 she performed in Kiev's "Unzer vinkl (Our Corner)". In 1924 she was in Kiev's "Kunst-vinkl (Art Corner)".

In 1926 she acted with Rudolf Zaslovsky, later with Menachem Rubin and later in an Odessa collective and in other movable Yiddish theatre collectives. In 1932 she performed in the Yiddish State Theatre for young audiences in Kiev.

In 1941 K. was killed by the Nazis back in Kharkov. E.'s sister, Sonya, was a Yiddish actress.
